Gluten Free Desserts
When you decide for whatever reason to cut gluten out of your diet, one thought may be in your mind – I’ll never eat cake again. Sure, there are a lot of desserts that contain some form of gluten or wheat: pies, cakes, tiramisu, or many of the fruit sauces are thickened with wheat. But it doesn’t mean there aren’t any gluten free desserts. In fact, there are plenty of options available to you.
First off, think fruits and creams. One of the simplest and best desserts is simply whipped cream with fruit. And if you whip the cream yourself you can even take advantage of some fun ingredients like brandy or champagne to add a touch of excitement and adult flavor to you dessert.
Second, cakes like cheesecake and ice cream cake are still available to you. Many of the crusts may contain wheat, but there are others that can be found or made using wheat free substitutes.
Third, gelatin desserts like Jello or even fancier desserts like panna cotta are thickened without wheat or flour and still have a light soft texture that is delicious. The same goes with mousses as well, which is always bound to impress and satisfy.
If these ideas aren’t enough, there are many fine cookbooks available that have plenty of substitutes or are designed with the wheat free eater in mind. This way you won’t have to go hunting through dozens of books just to find a way to finish off your meal smiling. You may even find something you like even better than cake.
